Mobile Marketer Podcast Interview
With the proliferation of billions of cell phones on the planet we want to take notice of how we can access consumers. In this interview with Mickey Alam Khan you will get clear and concise overview of the mobile marketing space and some the challenges and some of the opportunities.
We cover a range of topics including privacy and how the carriers play a role in the privacy space. We also cover the impact of the Apple iPhone and how it has become the defacto standard for mobile handsets to come. One of the challenges for mobile marketers is there are dozens of handsets in the market place using different browsers. Mickey suggests that if you are marketing to a specific market make sure you survey the market and design/develop the content for the handsets that the users are using, chances are there won’t be enough resources around to develop for each and every mobile handset.
Mickey talks about the "2 year plans" that we want to be aware of since that is the typical length of a carrier agreement with the user. He goes into several marketers that have successful campaigns including Subway, Extreme Pita and McDonald’s. He says that the mobile phone is the most personal of devices and if a marketer is going to make an offer using SMS it must be time sensitive in order to make it relevant and valuable.
This interview is packed with ideas and suggestions on how small businesses can use mobile marketing to their advantage. Check out the MobileMarketer.com 2008 Mobile Research Outlook.
