Web 4.0? Grid Technologies Particle Accelerators Revolutionize Society?

We are living in exponential times.  We will see the impact of these times in our lifetime.  Check out Shift Happens for openers.

I know nothing about grid technologies and particle accelerators however when I read this article I took notice since it just very well could be something profound.  Any time someone says "revolutionize society" I think of nuclear, compound interest (i.e. Debt) I think of drought and global warming.  I do not think faster internet.  The reason being is I think the internet is pretty fast already, so it is time for (me) us to change our thinking and think about what it would be like to have an Internet 10,000 times faster than it is?

One thing I know for sure is that Mobile will certainly change.  Another thing that would change is TV.  TV would just be a URL on the Internet.  The Internet would be the next TV.  We could watch Youtube, YouPorn, Yahoo, PodTech and many others.  The TV clickers or remote controls would definately look more like a keyboard…..or maybe they would be speech recognition.

David Britton, professor of physics at Glasgow University and a leading figure in the grid project, believes grid technologies could “revolutionise” society. “With this kind of computing power, future generations will have the ability to collaborate and communicate in ways older people like me cannot even imagine,” he said.

The power of the grid will become apparent this summer after what scientists at Cern have termed their “red button” day – the switching-on of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the new particle accelerator built to probe the origin of the universe. The grid will be activated at the same time to capture the data it generates.
