Federal Business Opportunity Checklist
Now that you are on your way to doing business with the Federal Government there is a Federal Business Opportunity Checklist that you will want to get started with. (This is only a partial check list and your journey can take many twists and turns).
1) Read the book “Rolling the Dice in D.C.” by Richard White. This book will give you a good idea if you should proceed or not. It is a huge time saver.
2) Listen to an interview with Jim Peake and Dick White on how to do business with the Federal Government
3) Visit the FedBizOpps.gov Web site to see what types of opportunities there are
4) Register with the Central Contractor Registration database (Must do if you want to do business with the Feds and get paid).
5) Register on the ORCA Database
6) Get Government Contracting Leads and Contract Information. Purchase Fed Buying Intelligence
7) Start Cold Calling the areas of government that you have solutions for. Create a demand for your products and services. Once you have done this then go for certifications that are appropriate in your case.
9) Make friends in Washington, D.C. Here are a few people to put on your must call lists
d. Join American Small Business League and learn how you can help divert small business contracts back to small businesses, $100 Billion is up for grabs
10) Check out the list of government agencies, they all buy what you are selling
11) Go to visit the Federal Government and get to know them. Here is a list of Federal Trade shows that might be a starting point.
12) Learn how to write a GSA proposal
13) Think about doing a congressional ad campaign, this is what one of them looks like.
14) Start to count your money when you win your federal contract(s), as you can see the Fed loves to spend and spend and spend.
